Important notes, like user IDs or passwords should never be left where anyone can read them. Unfortunately, Windows has nothing to offer in terms of document protection. To make up for the operating system's privacy gaps, you can use Safe Pad to encrypt your personal notes. It is a lightweight text editor with advanced encryption capabilities. Using a triple AES encryption algorithm, it can make your sensitive files unhackable.

The application is distributed under a freeware license, so you can use it for as long as you want, without paying. It is compatible with any modern Windows platform and it works on any mid-range computer. The installation package is roughly one and a half MB and it takes less than a minute to complete the setup process.

Safe Pad looks and feels like Notepad, but it comes with more functions. Obviously, its key feature is the possibility of encrypting documents, but it also provides a few text formatting tools. You can move entire paragraphs left or right, just by placing the text cursor anywhere in that paragraph and clicking the appropriate options, located on a toolbar.

To encrypt your text, you just need to save it. Before it displays the Save As dialog, Safe Pad will ask you to type and retype two passwords, which can be different. The application uses the 256-bit AES encryption protocol to protect your documents. By setting up two passwords, you will get an effective key strength of 512 bits.

Encrypted files are stored in the application's native format and you can open them only on Safe Pad's interface. If you attempt to open an encrypted file by other means, the file will be opened in Notepad and its text will be replaced with special characters.

Pros

You can encrypt your personal notes just by saving them on the hard drive. The application uses a powerful encryption protocol to protect your files. Additionally, you can lock your files with two passwords.

Cons

You can't open encrypted files on other computers, unless you install the application. With its powerful encryption capabilities, Safe Pad can make your personal notes unreadable and unhackable.
